Tottenham Hotspur defend Eidur swoop
Harry Redknapp insists Tottenham Hotspur Football Club did no wrong in signing Eidur Gudjohnsen.
The Icelandic international looked to be on the brink of signing for West Ham United after undergoing a medical ahead of a proposed loan from Monaco.
However, Spurs nipped in to talk to Gudjohnsen and he agreed to join them instead, sparking outrage from the Hammers co-owner David Sullivan.
Redknapp has hit back at suggestions his club did wrong to take the 31-year-old from under the noses of their London rivals, insisting it was always down to what the player wanted.
"He's joined us and he's a player we've always admired," he said. "He's a player we have been chasing for a couple of weeks. It was his decision. I rang him.
“I left a message saying 'Eidur, if you are down the road with West Ham, (manager, Gianfranco) Zola and (assistant) Steve Clarke are friends of yours. Don't fall out with them.'
“I get on great with David Sullivan and I don't want any hassle with him either. But he (Eidur) came back and said 'It's my choice. I want to come to Tottenham.’”
