Benjani has joined Sunderland Football Club for the rest of the season.

Although the deadline for winter transfers was 5pm on Monday afternoon, Black Cats boss Steve Bruce claimed he was unable to sign Benjani due to communication issues.

The Premier League have now heard his case, and they have given the Wearside club permission to take Benjani on loan from Manchester City.

"He's a big, strong, powerful centre-forward and one we've been tracking for a long time,” Bruce told the official club site. "I'm delighted that we've been able to bring him to the club.”
