Benjani won’t replace Jones at Sunderland
10:30 AM 05 February, 2010
Steve Bruce insists Benjani has not been signed to replace Kenwyne Jones at Sunderland.

The Black Cats have signed the Manchester City striker on loan for the rest of the season, and this has sparked speculation surrounding Liverpool target Jones.

However, Bruce has told the Sunderland Echo that whilst both players have similar qualities, the new arrival has not been brought in to replace the Trinidadian.

“You can see a lot of similarities between Benjani and Kenwyne,” he said. “They are both very tall, very powerfully built and can cause defenders real problems on their day.

“They are both capable of making and scoring goals too. But I don’t want Benjani to replace Kenwyne. I need him to give up another option because we have been light in that department.”
