James issues Portsmouth battle cry
03:30 PM 05 February, 2010
David James insists Portsmouth Football Club can avoid relegation this season.

A 1-0 defeat at Fulham leaves Pompey six points adrift at the foot of the Premier League table, with fifteen games of a hugely testing season left to compete.

Although most pundits have already written off the chances of Avram Grant’s side avoiding the drop into the Championship, James remains optimistic.

“We had two games in hand, now it’s one, but a six-point gap is not insurmountable,” the England international goalkeeper, 39, told the official club website.

“You’ve seen us out there at Fulham. We played well. One incident has cost us the game while we’ve had four or five chances and not taken them. I don’t think confidence is an issue. We looked good.”
