Martin O’Neill believes James Milner is happy to wait to open talks over a new contract.

The England star has become one of the most productive players in the Premier League following his move to Aston Villa, but he only has eighteen months remaining on his deal.

The Midlands club are naturally eager to tie Milner to a new deal, but as they are busy at the business end of an exciting season, O’Neill has stalled talks until the summer.

"I would say we wouldn't be looking at people until summertime, but that doesn't mean that James Milner hasn't been fantastic for this football club,” he told the Express and Star.

"I've already spoken to him and we're not going to sit down now. The season is far too busy and summertime is the perfect time to talk and I think all parties agree on that too."
