O’Neill backs Aston Villa duo for England
07:00 PM 19 February, 2010
Aston Villa Football Club boss Martin O’Neill feels Stewart Downing and Stephen Warnock are good enough to feature for England in this summers World Cup Finals.

Winger Downing already has 23 caps for the national side, and his form since recovering from injury to star for the Midlands side has been impressive this season.

A serious injury to Chelsea’s Ashley Cole has caused a possible opening in the left-back role, and Warnock has also been on top form for Villa since joining from Blackburn Rovers.

"I've said this before, surely there must be places up for grabs that the England manager is not completely decided upon," O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail.

"Stephen has been hovering around the squad just recently and that's good news and Stewart, of course, has been out with injury but I think Fabio Capello thought a lot of him anyway.

“All of those things will encourage them."
