Nigel De Jong is full of praise for the Manchester City Football Club faithful.

The Dutch international has made a big impression since his move to Eastlands last January, and is sure to play a key part in their push for a top-four Premier League finish.

And as De Jong prepares to take on Liverpool in a crunch fixture on Sunday afternoon, he has paid tribute to the fans who have taken his no-nonsense style to heart.

“I love the City fans and the fighting spirit they have - it's something I can relate to,” he said. "I noticed from the moment I arrived in Manchester how many Blues there were compared to Reds.

"This is a working-class city. The people are used to hard work and want to see players play in a way they would. I see the passion our fans have for this club. I totally relate to that."
