Darren Fletcher has revealed Manchester United rejected bids for his signature.

For some time the Scottish international was considered nothing more than a squad player for the Reds, but he has become a key player in the starting eleven over the past couple of seasons.

Speaking to the official Matchday programme ahead of the Carling Cup final, Fletcher has revealed that the club did field offers for his signature whilst he was in and out of the team.

"He (Sir Alex Ferguson) said there had been offers but he didn't want me to go," he said. "Deep down I just wanted to show what I was capable of.

"That is what drove me on and what I want to keep maintaining now because I want to be here for the rest of my career and leave some sort of mark on the club."
