Teddy Sheringham reckons Ledley King is as good as John Terry and Rio Ferdinand, and has called upon Fabio Capello to take the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club star to South Africa.

The Spurs captain has endured an injury-riddled career, but on his day, there is little doubt that he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

And for this reason, Sheringham, a former White Hart Lane striker, has urged Capello to include King in his World Cup squad to compliment Chelsea’s Terry and Manchester United’s Ferdinand.

"I'd gamble on him. I know how good Ledley is from my days playing with him at Spurs,” he told The Sun. "He's the best English centre-back, apart from John Terry and Rio Ferdinand.

"And personally I think he's on a par with them. If Ledley was under 70 per-cent fit I don't think Capello would take him and I'd agree with that.

"But in South Africa Ledley wouldn't be playing every day and he's so good that I'd take him. If he filled in, you wouldn't miss Rio Ferdinand or John Terry.”
