James targets incredible recovery for Portsmouth
03:00 PM 01 March, 2010
David James wants to help Portsmouth Football Club retain their Premier League status, and has hinted he may even be willing to take a pay-cut to help the financially-troubled outfit.

Pompey went into administration last week, and if they are deducted nine points as punishment, they will be fourteen adrift of top-flight safety.

James, though, is not giving up hope that the Fratton Park club can stave off relegation, and he has hinted he would be willing to discuss a pay-cut to help them out.

“I want to stay at Portsmouth until the end of the season and be part of the most incredible recovery ever,” said the England international goalkeeper. "I want to play games.

“If things have to be done in order for me to stay in the team, then so be it. I can't speak for the other players. The importance of Portsmouth outweighs the importance of any individual. If I need to sit down and talk to the administrator, then that is what I will do."
