Real Madrid will intensify their pursuit of Jose Mourinho, following their dismal exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Lyon this week.

Despite spending heavily in the summer on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema, Los Blancos again crashed out of the Champions League at the second round stage.

And although they currently lead La Liga over rivals Barcelona by virtue of goal difference, it is almost certain that Manuel Pellegrini will be shown the door in the summer.

Mourinho has long been admired at the Bernabeu, and reports in Spain are growing that a move for the current Internazionale coach will be made at the end of the season.

The Portuguese ace, formerly of Chelsea, has failed to settle in Italy despite successfully winning Serie A last season, and although he has often spoken of his love for the game in England, he could well be tempted to pit his wits in the Spanish capital.
