Johnson and Bristol City part company
07:30 PM 19 March, 2010
Gary Johnson has left Bristol City Football Club by mutual consent.

The former Yeovil Town manager arrived at Ashton Gate in September 2005, and led the club to the Championship during his first full season in charge.

Indeed, he was just ninety minutes away from the Premier League, but a Dean Windass goal was enough to give Hull City victory in the play-off final in May 2008.

Since then Johnson has failed to make progress with City, and after a tenth place finish last term, they are currently teetering on the brink of the relegation fight.

"I'm obviously disappointed to be leaving but we felt it was right that I look for a new challenge," he told BBC Radio Bristol, as his assistant Keith Millen was appointed in temporary charge.

"It's been a difficult couple of months and we've all been under pressure to try and sustain a challenge in what is a very, very difficult league.

"A lot of these lads have worked very hard to get this club to be a comfortable Championship club and I don't feel that people were giving them enough credit for that."
