Utaka ready to end Portsmouth stint
John Utaka is expected to leave Portsmouth Football Club in the summer.
The 28-year-old Nigerian joined Pompey in the summer of 2007, when Harry Redknapp signed him from Rennes in a £7million transfer on a reported wage of £80,000-per-week.
Such sums have not gone down well with the Fratton Park faithful, who have seen their club slip into administration this season as they head for relegation from the Premier League.
Utaka still has a year remaining on his contract at the South Coast club, and earlier this year, he hit back at claims he is somewhat responsible for the financial situation of his employers.
“Some people look at you and think 'he's on £80,000 and the club is having big financial problems'. It's not my fault," he said. "I have read that I earn £80,000 per week but that is untrue.”
What does seem inevitable is that the forward will not be at Portsmouth for much longer, with reports in France claiming Sochaux lead a chasing pack all interested in his signature.
