Martin O'Neill has welcomed Portsmouth Football Club's appointment of Tony Adams.

The Arsenal legend has been promoted from assistant following Harry Redknapp's exit to Tottenham Hotspur, and O'Neill has welcomed the new addition to the ranks of Premier League manager's.

"I am absolutely delighted for him," the Aston Villa boss told Sky Sports. "He has tried management before at Wycombe and I think he will now be equipped to take the job.

"He will know the players inside out and he has worked for Harry for a good period so he will have learned a lot. Everything else is up to him but it is a great opportunity."
