Trapattoni claims Celtic offer
09:30 AM 31 May, 2010
Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed he has rejected the chance to join Celtic Football Club.

The Bhoys are currently without a manager, although there is speculation they could appoint the inexperienced Neil Lennon after he impressed in a caretaker role last season.

It is believed they would then want to appoint a more experienced head to assist the former midfielder in an advisory role, and it appears Trapattoni was a target.

However, the 71-year-old former Italy coach insists he is staying at the Republic of Ireland, who he aims to take to the European Championships in two years time.

“It was not the Celtic chairman, but someone close to him, close to the club, a former player, who approached me three to four months ago and asked would I be interested in a position," he said.

"But I say no, I am with Ireland. I also had two or three teams ask me in Italy, and two English teams. I told them all the same answer - that I am with Ireland."
