Arsenal Football Club are said to be closing on Joe Cole, although no deal has yet been struck.
The England international, one of the chosen 23 for the World Cup Finals, is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of this month, when he is expected to leave Stamford Bridge.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the 28-year-old, although Harry Redknapp has all but accepted defeated in landing the midfielder.
The Spurs manager is of the opinion that Cole has already agreed a deal with another club, which has sparked speculation of a move to Old Trafford or the Emirates Stadium.
Rumours were circulated amongst the media on Wednesday that the player had already agreed, although not signed, a three-year deal with Arsene Wenger’s side.
However, The Mirror’s Gunners correspondent, John Cross, insisted on his Twitter site that there was no deal, although he did confirm the club are interested.
All could now depend on whether United decide to make an official move for Cole, and if not, it seems inevitable he will be wearing the red of Arsenal next season.
