John Mensah hopes to be lining up for Sunderland Football Club next season.

Despite only playing sixteen times for the Black Cats during a loan spell last term, he impressed enough to earn himself a place on Steve Bruce’s wanted list this summer.

However, due to the 27-year-old’s injury problems, the Stadium of Light boss wants to take him from Lyon in another loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.

Whilst the two clubs are said to be at loggerheads over this, German club Hamburg are ready to pounce for Mensah, but his agent claims the defender prefers to stay on Wearside.

“If it is up to John he will go back to Sunderland because he has a very good relationship with the coach and his family are very settled in England,” Fabien Piveteau said in The Journal.
