Liverpool step up interest in Figueroa
12:30 PM 02 August, 2010
Liverpool Football Club are set to make an official move for Maynor Figueroa.

The 27-year-old Honduran international has made a big impression at Wigan Athletic, and he was the subject of a bid from Sunderland twelve months ago.

The Black Cats are managed by Steve Bruce, who took the player to the DW Stadium, and they are expected to make a renewed bid for his signature this summer.

However, they look certain to face competition from the Anfield club, with reports in the Daily Star Sunday claiming the Reds are set to lodge an offer of £5million.

Roy Hodgson was in desperate need for a new left-back a few days ago, but he has since re-signed Fabio Aurelio on a two-year deal whilst Emiliano Insua’s move to Fiorentina has stalled.

The addition of Figueroa would give the Merseyside club plenty of options, and would also banish any plans they had of persuading Manchester City to sell Wayne Bridge.
