Bristol City Football Club want to take Michael Owen on loan.

The ambitious Championship club pulled off one of the shocks of the summer last week, when they announced the arrival of England international goalkeeper David James.

According to the Daily Mail, they now want to top this by luring Owen from Manchester United, in a loan deal for the duration of a campaign in which, clearly, they aim to launch a promotion bid.

Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, and possibly Javier Hernandez are all ahead of the 30-year-old in the Reds pecking order, but it remains to be seen if he would consider dropping down a division.
