Crystal Palace Football Club have calmed speculation over Edgar Davids.
Rumours were rife on Wednesday that the Eagles were set to sign the 37-year-old, who has not played a competitive match for two years.
It was claimed that the experienced Dutch international was set to be offered a pay-as-you-play deal by the Championship side, but George Burley has played down such a move.
"There is nothing definite about Davids," he told the Evening Standard. "This is to do with a friend of a mate who knows Edgar and it was mentioned that he might like to start playing again.
"Edgar has a home in London and he's talking about starting to play again. But it hasn't gone much further than that. There is a long way between wanting to play again after two years of retirement and getting involved in a tough league like the Championship."
