Gelson Fernandes can’t understand why Tom Huddlestone, the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club star, is not in Fabio Capello’s England squad.

The Italian coach takes his side to face the Swiss in the second Euro 2012 qualifier, having made light work of Bulgaria with a 4-0 win on Friday night.

Former Manchester City midfielder Fernandes, who will captain Switzerland on Tuesday, has revealed his surprise that he won’t be facing Huddlestone in Basel.

"England had nobody to protect the defenders at the World Cup," said the Chievo Verona ace. "Tom Huddlestone could do it. It surprises me that he’s not in the squad either."
