Portsmouth fury at Lawrence confusion
05:30 PM 07 September, 2010
Portsmouth Football Club are furious as they still don’t know where they stand with their supposed signing of Liam Lawrence.

It looked as though the Republic of Ireland international was a Pompey player when the window shut, as he was part of the deal which took Marc Wilson to Stoke City.

However, the Football League are not convinced the deal was completed before the 6pm deadline, much to the anger of Fratton Park administrator Andrew Andronikou.

“The Lawrence deal has not been ratified by the Football League yet and we are still waiting to hear the outcome,” he told The News.

“Unfortunately, we are not Tottenham Hotspur and are not allowed to have this issue sorted the next day as they did with Rafael van der Vaart.

"This sort of thing will only happen to us. There is proper brinkmanship going on just because we are Portsmouth Football Club.”
