Edwin van der Sar is keen to further extend his stay at Manchester United Football Club.

The former Dutch international has finally buried the ghost of Peter Schmeichel at Old Trafford, following his move from Fulham in the summer of 2005.

Van der Sar is contracted to the Reds until the end of the current season, and as he turns 40-years-old next month, many expect this to be his final campaign.

However, it is believed the veteran goalkeeper is hoping to earn one more year with the Reds, at least, and is understood to have broached the subject with Sir Alex Ferguson.

The form of van der Sar last season and in the early stages of this would suggest he is certainly capable of continuing as a number one for one more term at the minimum.
