Slick England secure Swiss success
10:00 PM 07 September, 2010
England secured a second successive Euro 2012 qualifying success on Tuesday night.

Following the 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Friday night, Fabio Capello’s men looked to continue their recovery from the World Cup nightmare with a win in Switzerland.

And Wayne Rooney put the Three Lions ahead from close range on ten minutes, to put a brief smile on his face after what has been a difficult week concerning his private life.

Adam Johnson, on for the injured Theo Walcott after the opening goal, doubled the visitors lead on 69 minutes when he latched onto a Steven Gerrard pass to round the keeper and slot home.

By this time the Swiss were down to ten men, but they ensured a nervy finish when 18-year-old Basel star Xherdan Shaqiri scored a spectacular effort which gave Joe Hart no chance.

However, the points were secured for Capello’s side when another substitute, Darren Bent, finished superbly after being picked out by Ashley Cole.
