Reading tell Hendrie: thanks, but no thanks
07:30 PM 09 September, 2010
Reading Football Club have rejected the chance to sign Lee Hendrie.

The former Aston Villa midfielder has been without a club since the end of his Derby County contract this summer, which followed a brief loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Royals boss Brian McDermott was happy to take a look at Hendrie, but he has decided against offering the 33-year-old former England international a contract.

"It was a shot to nothing for us. He really wants it and he was great in training, but I just felt for us that we had players who could play in his position,” he told the Reading Post.

"I can't speak highly enough of the lad and wish him all the best. At the right club, with the right manager and right set-up he can still do a job in the Championship. I'm sure of that.”
