Sheffield Wednesday loanee impressing Grimsby boss
09:46 AM 10 September, 2010
10-9-10: Grimsby boss Neil Woods is delighted with his new loan shot-stopper Richard O'Donnell.

He told the Grimsby Telegraph that his first-choice keeper Kenny Arthur is making a good recovery from his hamstring injury, but because of the Sheffield Wednesday loanee's form he won't have to rush Arthur back.

Woods said: "The bright side for us is that Kenny's hamstring doesn't seem as bad as we maybe first thought and he's responding well.

"He could be back in contention in a week's time.

"Richard has been great since the moment he walked in.

"Obviously, you do your homework on a player but until you get them in and start working with them, you are never 100 per cent.

"He's been a breath of fresh air around the place.

"He works extremely hard and loves every single minute of training.

"He looks like a lad that has been given a chance to step out of reserve team football.

"He won the respect instantly – we did some work on crosses last Thursday and he came to claim three of the first four.

"Straight away, he set the tone and the rest of the players had confidence in him.

"He is full of enthusiasm which is great.

"I want my young lads at the club to be like that because they should be.

"Sometimes there becomes a thing that you should be cool and calm all the time.

"I don't think you have to because only one in 20 will naturally be like that.

"I encourage players to show enthusiasm and Richard does that.

"He has stayed behind off his own back a couple of times to do extra work.

"He's great to have around."
