Everton goalkeeper: I’m NOT Neville Southall!
07:30 PM 11 November, 2008
By the American’s own admission, Tim Howard has a long way to go before he can be compared to Everton Football Club legend Neville Southall.

The former Manchester United man etched his name into the Toffees’ folklore on Saturday when he became the first number one in their history to concede less than a goal-per-game during 100 outings.

However, he appreciates that he is not yet up to Southall’s standard.

"Neville is a legend and the reason he's a legend is because he did it over a long period of time," Howard told the club's official website. "I've got a long way to go, I know that.

“But I hope that I can stay consistent, stay here for a long time and do it with this club. 100 games is a fantastic milestone at any club but, as I've always said, at Everton there's something special about it.

"The ability to play consistently over the last few years and get to 100 games is a marker for me.

“The record is just the icing on the cake.”
