Darren Fletcher has likened Barry Bannan to Manchester United great Paul Scholes.

20-year-old Bannan has burst onto the first team scene at Aston Villa this season, and looks sure to be a Premier League star of the future.

His Scottish compatriot Fletcher is certainly impressed, and following the 2-2 draw between the two clubs on Saturday, has likened the youngster to his United team-mate Scholes.

"He is in the mould of some of the best midfielders in the world, that size, like Xavi, (Andres) Iniesta and Paul Scholes,” he said. "He has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.”

Bannan could line up alongside Fletcher on Tuesday evening, when he will look to earn his first international cap in the friendly clash with the Faroe Islands.
