Following the furore over Wayne Rooney’s accusations of a lack of ambition, the Glazer family are finally set to hand Sir Alex Ferguson a big budget to spend on players.

Whilst it is unlikely the Reds boss will splash out big during the winter window, it would be no surprise to see him flex his financial muscle at the end of the season.

And reports in Germany claim Ferguson has set his sights on a move for Portugal international Danny, who is currently plying his trade with Zenit St Petersburg.

The Russians paid around £25million to take the 27-year-old from Dynamo Moscow in 2008, and 4-4-2 claim United are prepared to pay the same price to take him to England.
