Arsenal set to revisit interest in Hangeland
01:00 PM 23 February, 2011
Brede Hangeland is back on the agenda at Arsenal Football Club.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a new centre-half when the window reopens, as he looks for a long-term partner for the currently injured Thomas Vermaelen.

A number of names have been linked with the Gunners, but Fans FC understand the French coach could be set to renew his long held interest in Hangeland.

It is widely thought that Wenger wanted to sign the Norwegian international last summer, but the 29-year-old remained loyal to London rivals Fulham.

But as the Cottagers endure a disappointing campaign, the Arsenal manager could be about to try again for Hangeland when the window reopens.

Funny that the two players you want to get rid of are the last two gunners to score for the team!! Who would you be able to buy to replace Rosicky? He is a very able back-up playmaker who can pass the ball as well as most on the Arsenal squad. His major drawback is the lack of goals (although he scored twice in the last couple of weeks, so that may change). I think Almunia is probably going to go away to try his luck at another club now that he has fallen to Number 3, but he is again an apt backup or this season and will be replaced shortly by Menonni in the lineup. As to Squillaci, he played very well for Arsenal early in the season and is starting to find his legs again. He was hired as a back-up and had to shoulder more games than anticipated due to Vermaelen's ongoing illness. In the meantime, Djourou has started to live up to Arsene Wenger's expectations and is now the #1 choice, with Kocielny the #2 while Vermaelen is unable to participate. Djourour looks like an all-star at this point and Kocielny is likely to keep improving. Squillaci is a very apt backup when he doesn't have to play too many games in a row. As for buying English players, their transfer fees are so inflated that it's highly unlikely. Arsenal will keep on playing English (and Welsh!) players coming up through the ranks unless someone wants to come over on a free transfer, but Joe Cole's financial demands show that English players can command higher salaries than the equivalent foreign players, so it's highly unlikely Arsene Wenger will start over-paying unless it is for an English talent that's not available anywhere else.

I think mr Wenger need to add some concrete at the deffence. Someone who can efficiently replace Vermaelan. So far Djourou and Kosnielry are doing good but Squilici deserve to bench. my final say is please Mr Wenger sell out Squilaci, Almunia, Rosicky and bring in two engish blood like Bolton's Cahill, Villa's Young and a striker from brazil.
