Manchester United Football Club are yet to make an approach for Maarten Stekelenburg.

Earlier this season it was widely reported that the Holland international was the Reds first choice to replace Edwin van der Sar, who is set to quit in the summer.

However, it is understood that Ajax have heard nothing from United to this affect, which has raised question marks over United’s intention to make a move for him in the summer.

It has also been suggested that their supposed interest in Stekelenburg is a smokescreen, with the real number one target being Schalke and Germany ace Manuel Neuer.
