Chelsea not the priority for Ambrosini
10:00 AM 15 March, 2011
Massimo Ambrosini would rather sign a new contract with Milan than move to England.

Reports in Italy claim Chelsea are keen to sign the former Italian international, who worked under Carlo Ancelotti at the San Siro for a number of years.

The 33-year-old midfielder is out of contract in the summer, so he would be eligible to move to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer when the window reopens.

However, whilst his agent admits the relationship with Ancelotti could be a factor for Ambrosini, signing a new contract with the Rossoneri remains the priority.

“It is beyond doubt that there is a strong bond between Massimo and Carlo Ancelotti,” Moreno Roggi told Radio Sportiva.

“They worked together for many years and respect each other, but Massimo is a Milanista and has been for life. He is captain of the Rossoneri.

“The decision on whether to renew his contract is up to the club. He wants to stay at Milan and there are suggestions the club want to keep him too.

“I am almost certain he’ll stay with the Rossoneri, but I cannot hide that there are offers from other clubs. April should be a decisive month in understanding his future.”
