Shearer backs Blackburn Rovers survival bid
Alan Shearer feels Blackburn Rovers Football Club will avoid relegation.
The former England international won the Premier League title with Rovers in 1995, but they have since been unable to recapture anything like such glory.
Steve Kean’s side head into the final game of the season in deep relegation trouble, knowing a poor result against fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers could see them drop.
However, Shearer, who left Ewood Park for hometown club Newcastle United in the summer of 1996, believes the Lancashire club will just about survive.
"It's always a result I look for and it's hard to see them down there,” he told BBC Radio Lancashire. "I had four magnificent years there so I've got an affinity with the club.
"They're still not out of the mire and have a very tough game on Sunday and I hope they get out of it for the fans. Fingers crossed, I think they will be okay.”
