Newcastle United Football Club want to sign Stephen Ireland on the cheap.

The midfielder only joined Aston Villa from Manchester City this time last year, in a deal which cost the Midlands club a fee of around £6million.

However, he lasted just six months before he was loaned out to Newcastle in January, but injury problems saw him make just two outings for the Magpies.

Despite this, Alan Pardew is prepared to offer Ireland a permanent move to St James Park, but only if Villa agree to sell the 24-year-old for just £2million.
