Everton Football Club are plotting a shock bid for Benjani.

With Yakubu ruled out of the rest of the season with an Achilles injury and question marks resurfacing over Louis Saha’s fitness, David Moyes accepts he is short of options in attack.

"He's ruptured his Achilles which will keep him out for the rest of the season," he said of Yakubu. "And Louis Saha has a torn hamstring. James Vaughan is out for a couple of months, so we're really short."

It is believed Moyes will make a £5million bid for Benjani, who could be made available from Eastlands as Mark Hughes looks to reshape his Manchester City squad.
