Arsenal hope to land Enrique this week
01:00 PM 19 July, 2011
Arsenal will put the wheels in motion to land Jose Enrique this week.

The Gunners have lost Gael Clichy to Manchester City in a £7million deal, and they are determined to land a top-quality replacement ahead of the new season.

Enrique has just twelve months left on his contract at Newcastle United, who would have to consider selling him after he rejected fresh terms.

And it is believed Arsene Wenger will make his move for the former Villarreal ace, 25, this week, by sending a £7million bid to the St James Park club.

I think the phrase arsenal lost gael clichy to man city should be replaced with arsenal bit their f*cking hand off at someone who offered real money for him. Hope we get Enrique even before we sold clichy I wanted him to join but seems unlikely from Arsene Wengers comments who for some reason wants to rely on a player who has never been fit a whole season and then replace him with our best CB when he inevitably gets injured.

Yes he is worth €20m - but on a 4 year contract. £7m on a 1 year deal is about right. He is a good player consistant, reliable and played better than Clichy who sold for £7m with 1 year remaining on his contract. Market price dictates it is a similar deal. As a Gooner, I would not mind seeing Enrique in red but we have no divine right to get him whilst in any case I cannot see it happening. Wenger has stated that Vermalen will play left back and whilst I sense that may be brinkmanship to ward off the press, he will surely tie up Samba as a centre back and/or another centre, whilst he still has the option of bringing in Kyle Bartley in that position too, one season after being a Rangers Champion in Scotland. Anything is possible, but cannot see Enrique to AFC happening.
