George McCartney has returned to West Ham United Football Club.

The 30-year-old began his career at Sunderland before moving to the Hammers in 2006, making over sixty league appearances before returning to the Stadium of Light two years later.

McCartney spent last season on loan in the Championship with Leeds United, and he will remain in this division after Sam Allardyce took him to Upton Park for a third stint.

"It is brilliant to be coming back. For me personally it will be great to be playing again for a club like West Ham," the defender, who is on loan for the campaign, told the club's official website.

"It is a big opportunity for me and I can't wait to get started again. I am looking forward to being part of the manager's squad and the club's push for promotion.”
