Jonny Evans is an ambitious target for Newcastle United Football Club.

Aside from two loan spells at Sunderland and one in Belgium with Royal Antwerp, the Northern Ireland international has spent all his time at Manchester United.

But with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones ahead of him in the pecking order, the 23-year-old is now considered to be fifth choice central defender at Old Trafford.

And although Evans impressed when called upon in the 3-2 Community Shield win against rivals City, he could find first team opportunities hard to come by this season.

It is believed Alan Pardew has earmarked the defender for his starting eleven at St James Park, although it would be a huge surprise if he were to pull off such a transfer.
