But it appears as though the Portuguese coach could be about to accept defeat in his pursuit of the Croatian, as he has now made an offer to land Mata.

And although Valencia rejected this bid, believed to have been of around £22million, it is being reported that the Blues are discussing the possibility of an increased offer.
