Scott Parker is thriving on the battle for a place in the Tottenham Hotspur side.

The England international arrived at White Hart Lane from West Ham United on deadline day, and he has made a positive start to life with his new club.

But with competition fierce for a regular place in Harry Redknapp’s midfield, the midfielder knows he must be on the top of his game to nail down a start.

"I knew when I signed for Spurs that it would be difficult and it is. I will have to work hard and prove myself to stay in the team," the 30-year-old said in the Daily Star Sunday.

"You always know when you come to a big club that there will be real competition for places and I think that's healthy. But I'm up for the challenge, and we're all pushing each other."
