Michael Essien could be back in action for Chelsea Football Club in December.

The influential Ghanaian midfielder has been out of action in the early stages of the campaign, after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during the pre-season programme.

It was initially thought that Essien would miss the entire season with the injury, however, he is making sound progress with his rehabilitation and could be back a lot sooner.

Speaking to the official club website, Blues coach Andre Villas-Boas revealed: “Essien is making good progress and we're thinking end of December."
