Ireland vows to win over Aston Villa fans
04:00 PM 20 January, 2012
Stephen Ireland is determined to win over the Aston Villa Football Club fans.

During his time at Manchester City the Irish midfielder was once regarded as one of the brightest talents in the game, but he has struggled since a 2010 move to the Midlands.

Ireland, who ended last season on loan at Newcastle United, has failed to convince the Villa Park faithful of his talent, but he has been in improved form of late.

And the 25-year-old is determined to now nail down a regular start in Alex McLeish’s side, which will help him win over the Villa supporters.

"I feel I'm ready to show my best form now,” he said. "One of the targets I've set is to get on better with the fans and it is nice when they sing your name on the pitch.

"I've not had the greatest of relationships with them but I've not had a consistent run. There was no in-between. It's been frustrating but I'm playing now and I'm pleased."
