Alan Smith could earn a permanent deal at MK Dons Football Club.

The 31-year-old is on loan at the League One side for the remainder of the season, at the end of which his contract at Newcastle United will have expired.

Smith has hinted that he could be prepared to join the Dons on a permanent basis, and this could well be feasible after his manager hailed him after his debut in the 1-1 with Huddersfield Town.

“I want him to be the one player given the freedom to unlock defences. We have a steely, gritty and hard-working player and I am made up with him,” said Karl Robinson.
