Jonas Gutierrez has urged Fabricio Coloccini to stay at Newcastle United Football Club.

The defender is under contract at St James Park until the summer of 2013, but if he doesn’t agree fresh terms by the end of the season, he could be sold when the window reopens.

Liverpool are thought to be amongst the admirers of Coloccini, but his Argentine compatriot has urged the player and club to come together and sort out a new deal.

“I know the qualities that he has,” he told the Sunday Sun. "I am so glad that he is here with our club and yes, of course I would like him to stay and I said that to him.”
