Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Terry Connor has revealed he is still in touch with Mick McCarthy.

Connor was promoted from assistant manager to boss last week, following McCarthy’s dismissal earlier this month as Wolves struggle against relegation.

Speaking after an impressive 2-2 draw at Newcastle United in his first game in charge, the new man revealed how he is still in touch with his former mentor.

"I've been in contact with Mick most days, just chatting things through and chatting about the situation and what's going on," Connor told Sky Sports.

"But he sent me a good luck message today by text and also had the courtesy to ring as well and we had a good chat before we got on the team bus to go."
