Newcastle United Football Club are in the boxseat to land Douglas.

The 24-year-old defender is currently plying his trade in Holland with FC Twente, but he has decided to quit when his contract expires in the summer.

Arsenal showed an interest but are believed to now have other targets, and whilst Aston Villa are keen, Newcastle are likely to be able to offer him European football.

Alan Pardew has made Douglas one of his top wants ahead of next season, and the Magpies manager is in pole position to land the Brazilian born player.
