Aidy Boothroyd insists Northampton Town have no interest in Marc Richards.

It had been suggested that the League Two side were keen on their former striker, who has scored 16 goals for Port Vale during the course of the current season.

However, Cobblers manager Boothroyd has wasted little time in denying an interest in Richards, although he accepts such speculation is often inevitable.

"I think that's just rumours,” he told The Chronicle. “It's that time of year when there's a lot of hearsay and rumour and that's the nature of it really.

"During the season, you've got lots to write about as journalists. I understand there's got to be speculation but there's nothing really to talk about on that one."
