Hughes wants Tottenham Hotspur striker
02:00 PM 23 May, 2012
Queens Park Rangers Football Club are eyeing an audacious deal for Jermain Defoe.

When the Loftus Road club secured their Premier League safety on the final day of the season, Mark Hughes vowed that they would never be involved in a scrap again.

The Rangers boss is expected to be handed funds to spend on his squad in the summer, and Fans FC understands England international Defoe is an ambitious want.

The 29-year-old is under contract at Tottenham Hotspur until 2014, but he has revealed he would consider quitting White Hart Lane if he was not getting enough game time.

"It is a difficult one," he told talkSPORT. "As a forward you just want to get some sort of rhythm and a run in the team. That wasn't the case towards the end of the season.

"I am going to concentrate on England and go to the Euros, then see what happens. The most important thing for me is scoring goals and that is when I am at my happiest."

Defoe made just 11 starts in the Premier League this season, and should Hughes lure him across the capital, the striker would be guaranteed a regular start every week.
