Harry Redknapp will brush aside the disappointment of missing out on the England job by redoubling his efforts into making Spurs a title-contending side next season.

And although UEFA Champions League football has been denied them by Chelsea’s triumph in the competition, he still hopes to attract some top-quality talent.

Redknapp knows Diarra well from their time at Portsmouth together, when they won the FA Cup, and he hopes for a reunion with the French international at White Hart Lane.

The 27-year-old struggled for regular first team action at Real Madrid this season, and as he enters the final year of his contract, could be up for grabs at £8million.
