John Sheridan believes Sam Hird is exactly what Chesterfield Football Club need.
The 24-year-old defender made 34 appearances in the Championship last season for Doncaster Rovers, but was unable to prevent their relegation.
Hird has now left the Keepmoat Stadium upon the expiry of his contract, and has signed a two-year contract with Sheridan’s League One side Chesterfield.
"I am delighted that we have been able to agree a deal,” the Spireites boss told the official club site. "He is the type of player who will bring experience and leadership qualities to the squad."
